WRESTLING FAQ's
GENERAL QUESTIONS
Q: Do you offer a free trial session?
A: Yes we offer ONE free trial session to anyone who has never been to our club but after that you must pay a membership to continue. Please complete our sign-up for on the Main Wrestling Page and Coach Spears will contact you directly about setting up your trial session. If both parents are needed to make a decision to join, please make sure both parents attend the free trial session. We are always in session so Free Trial Sessions occur during our regular membership training sessions.
Q: What styles of wrestling will you be teaching through the ALPC Wrestling Club?
A: We offer training year round; which includes learning the Olympic styles that are Freestyle and Greco, while also training and developing our Folkstyle wrestling. We focus on freestyle Greco mainly in the spring/summer.
Q: If I have to miss a session or two is that OK?
A: Absolutely. We recognize kids play other sports but if they are in the K-5 Club we ask they come at least once a week & if they are MS/HS we ask they come at least twice a week.
Q: Are tournaments optional?
A: Yes, no one will be forced to compete; however the purpose of the club is to train and prepare for tournaments. You don't have to attend all but I definitely would attend as many as you can because that's what all the best guys do that wrestle year round.
If you are MS/HS and you don't want to compete in tournaments we recommend you come to our Drop-In Sundays. If you are K-5 we recommend you take our camps, clinics and lessons. Camps/Clinics and Lessons will be added in the next couple of months.
Q: How many tournaments are in a season and are we required to attend?
A: There are tournaments during the spring/summer season every weekend BUT I select the ones I think are important and also close while also selecting national events so we can see not only the best in state but also out of state competition. Our goal is to train kids to compete on a national level not just state and this will lead into them getting the opportunity to wrestle at the next level in college.
Q: My son plays HS Football in the Fall, will that affect his practices?
A: In the Fall our schedule changes to only 2 days per week. This should accommodate any Fall Football Schedules.
Q: My son is just starting out, what kind of tournaments are there and how will I know if they are ready?
A: There are 2 types of tournaments: Normal & Rookie. The Coach will let you know and will also give you tournaments that are more beginner friendly and also close by. If you are new it would be best to train with us for a few weeks and then have a conversation with the coach to see where your athlete is. Wrestling Club Coaches will not encourage a kid to compete in a tournament before they are ready.
Q: My son is an advanced level HS athlete what specific training are you offering during sessions to help him win and possibly have the ability to play at the next level?
A: Our Coaches wrestled at a very high level so that has given them ability to see things most people do not see and drill things a lot of people do not drill at other clubs or training facility's. We will hammer on the fundamentals while also going over the things that it takes to compete on a national level. If they show it in practice to you it will work in a match. Coach Spears will always be working with our Older Athletes. Please read about Coach Spears on our main wrestling page to learn more about his experience.
Q: My son is in 5th grade should he join in with the middle school/High school kids?
If your son or daughter is a rising 6th grader which means it's spring and they will be in 6th grade come fall. I do not mind them moving up. Just keep in mind this is a very advanced group and very face paced practices.
Current 5th Grade: K-5 Sept-Feb
Current 5th Grade: MS/HS March of 5th Grade Year (if ready to move up)
Please note there is a price difference so please purchase the MS/HS Membership when you are ready to move up and then email athleteslabadmn@gmail.com so they can cancel your K-5 Membership.
Q: How are practices ran?
A: Each Practice is carefully planned out and many of these plans come from what is seen in competition from the weekend before and what our Coaches think needs to be ran at the present time. Practices are never off the cuff and are always fully thought out.
Q: Why should we choose Athletes Lab Wrestling Club?
A: One word quality. Our Coaches have wrestled and had success at not only the high school, but college and international level. They know the skills and tools it takes to be successful in the sport of wrestling. They will treat the least experienced kid just like they treat the most experienced. Athletes will get one-on-one attention even in the group setting. Our goal is for every kid young or older to reach his or her full potential: That means State Champions, All-Americans, and National Champions.
This is not designed to be a Rec League Club. We will offer Camps/Clinics/Lessons for beginners but this membership program is designed to take the wrestler to the next level and see them continue to grow even past High School.

- Freestyle makes you wrestle and develops you on the feet offensively and defensively, while also developing top movements that you use in Folkstyle.
- Greco will help you to develop hand fighting skills while also developing your throwing ability and teaching you how to control a guy upper body wise.
- If not for Freestyle/Greco I would never had the success in Folkstyle I had.

SUNDAY SESSIONS
Q: Are Sunday Sessions included in the MS/HS Membership?
A: Yes.
Q: Are the Sunday Sessions only for MS/HS?
A: The Sunday Sessions are for any athletes that are MS and older (including college level). We open this session to the public so we will have more than just our membership in attendance.
Q: If I attend Sunday drop-in sessions only, can I still wrestle under the name Athletes Lab Wrestling Club when I sign up for tournaments?
A: No. You must have a membership to wrestle under the Athletes Lab name. We are not only a club but a family so this would be unfair to our regular members that are paying monthly and training multiple days a week. Sunday is more of an Open Mat Format so we don't teach a lot those days. It's just a way for kids to come in and get put through a good hard practice with kids they don't typically see.
